Meejic Carpet can take you on a journey into Meej World to see Saigon through my eyes when I moved back in my mid 20's.

Her story was born from the hope, chaos, and joy that I experienced in transitioning from diasporic healing to thriving; a movement that I believe is visually & energetically reflected in the city of Saigon & culture of Vietnam at large.  Made from bits of trash I hoarded across two years of traveling & finding home in Vietnam, Meejic Carpet tells the story of what happened when I let go of everything I kept holding onto in order to create something new and beautiful for my life.

I built the original collage on top of a photo of Sydney that my friend was ready to let go of, and I've come to understand this as a metaphor for my entire process of manifesting a dream life I'd never seen modeled before: reclaiming what’s discarded, honoring the nostalgia & stuck emotions that turn things into clutter, and transforming it into art that heals me and finally, goes on to live in & bring color to someone else’s home.

Letting go of my life in America to return to the Motherland was not nearly as difficult as letting go of the memories of travel, friendship, & adventure from my first two years living in Saigon.  From boarding passes to lì xì envelopes, street flyers to travel sketches, old bags to comic strips ripped out of my student's Viet manga, every element in this piece holds a memory from a chapter I cherish.  Making art from a human journey of love, loss, reinvention, reconnection to Sài Gòn, myself, & my ancestors allows me to put a physical process to my spiritual one so I can share it with you.  This time, I've printed the collage onto a soft, durable rug so the story can live on beneath your feet.  It's my hope that she brings you comfort in new chapters of your life, wherever you are in the process of healing, finding home, & thriving.

The evolution of the OG collage into Meejic Carpet marks a new era in Meej World in which I get to discover (with you) where I can take my own story & what it looks like for meej to thrive.
